The most delicious food you ever tasted is the one made by yourself. Having the satisfaction to mould random ingredients into wonderful food is the most rewarding activity. The name says it all, main topping used is obviously tuna accompanied by tomato sauce, onions, mozzarella, olives and why not let your imagination and creativity take the reins for this one. Making your own pizza gives you the chances to combine your favourite ingredients.
Ingredients
serve 4-6
Making dough for two pizza:
water 1 cup
sugar 2 tbsp
salt 1/2 tsp
oil 3 tbsp
strong white bread flour 3 cup
fast action yeast 2 tsp
Toppings:
250 ml tomato sauce
2 canned tuna
250 gr fresh or grated mozzarella ( I sprinkled grated red Leicester cheese in combination with mozzarella)
5-10 cherry tomatoes
6 green onions
1 can of corn
fresh basil
1 egg
optional: olives, yellow or red onions, artichokes hearts, peppers etc
Method:
For making the dough, add all ingredients in the exact order mentioned above. You can use a stand mixer, bread-maker or make it manually. I used a bread maker, choosing dough setting. The bread-maker will knead the dough and also will leave it to rise.
Alternatively, knead the dough by hand adding water and oil gradually. Leave dough to rest and rise for 30 min, covered with a towel at room temperature.
Preheat your oven at maximum capacity.
Once the dough is ready, divide in two parts and start to roll out to a thickness of 3-4 mm. Place it in your tray and bake for 6-8 min at 180 C/356F.
Spread evenly the tomato sauce on your base followed by mozzarella, tuna, chopped green onions, corn, halves or quarters of cherries tomatoes and the egg lightly beaten.
Bake for another 10 min at 180C/356F until the crust is golden brown.
Add fresh basil leaves when finished.
Tips:
poke your pizza dough with a fork to avoid puffing in the oven (as seen in video bellow)
fresh mozzarella has to be well-drained
use good quality tomato sauce
avoid holes in your pizza dough once placed in your tray, as the liquid will drain and burn in your oven resulting in lots of smoke.
Enjoy!
