Sushi

Updated: Mar 26, 2021

šŸƒIngredients

500 gr sushi rice

5 tbsp sushi vinegar

9-10 Seaweed (nori sheet)

šŸƒFillings of your choice:

Avocado strips

Carrot, thin strips

Cucumber, thin strips

Smoked salmon

Cooked prawns

Crab meat

Green onion, thin strips

šŸƒTo serve

Pickled ginger

Wasabi

Soy sauce

šŸƒUtensils: bamboo mat

One sushi kit that I would recommend at an amazing price vs quality is this here šŸ‘‰: https://amzn.to/2MDXS3e .

Add your needed ingredients to your basket.

- nori sheets : https://amzn.to/3pYibqu

- pickled ginger : https://amzn.to/3jqp8y7

Method

  1. Place your rice in a bowl and wash until the water is clear.

  2. Transfer in a pan and add 650 ml water. Cook the rice over low heat with lid on, until the water is completely absorbed and the rice is cooked.

  3. Leave to cool for 10 min.

  4. Transfer the rice in a large and shallow bowl.

  5. Evenly, spread the vinegar and fold the rice making sure you avoid crushing it by stirring or mashing.

  6. Start making your sushi rolls. Be sure to have a medium bowl with water and some paper towels close by. This is to make sure the rice does not stick to your fingers, and if it does, you can quickly wash and dry, and then start fresh.

  7. Lay a nori sheet with the shiny-side down on the bamboo mat.

  8. Pat a 1 cm layer of rice, leaving the furthest edge from you clear.

  9. Add a line of your filling choice in the middle. I have used: cucumber, carrot and avocado for vegan choice; salmon, avocado and green onion; crab meat, cucumber and carrot; prawn, carrot and cucumber or avocado; etc. The combinations and fillings are endless.

  10. Now, roll your sheet tight and seal at the end. You can brush the end with water so it sticks completely.

  11. Apply pressure gently so you get a tight roll.

  12. Continue the same process until the rice and fillings are used.

  13. Cut the rolls in thick slices. Clean the knife blade when too sticky and it becomes harder or messy to cut.

  14. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi and pickled ginger.

Enjoy!
